Our Passion

The aspiring artists that make up the duo Songbird Rising were born in Fort McMurray, Alberta. From mixed Spanish and English/Irish heritage, they are developing their talents in both English and Spanish. The sisters love to sing children's music as well as popular songs from the past and present. Music was part of their upbringing from an early age. When Aven was diagnosed with cancer and the twins were separated for Aven's treatment, music was a lifeline for them. 

With the side effects of treatment and having to re-learn basic things after brain surgery, Aven and Lily have remained connected and have found a way to heal through music. One of Aven's favorite songs is from My Little Pony, titled "My Past is Not Today." As her family watches her courageously adapt to a new version of herself, the love she has for her twin, her other siblings, and her family has inspired her to keep moving forward and to focus on the blessings in her life. For Lily, who showed an aptitude and a passion for music since before she could speak, the opportunity to sing with her twin sister is counted as one of her greatest blessings. Lily created her first original song and performed it for the family at age 8. Singing with her twin and her siblings is one of her favorite things to do.

They are excited for opportunities to learn piano, guitar, bass, and ukulele. Lily and Aven are passionate about sharing music, and are always looking for opportunities to entertain.

• Songbird Rising's musical debut was at the Onoway Community Health Fair.
